Have you ever wondered how we came to this human form? After millions and millions of years of evolution from rudimentary ocean-dwelling creatures, to fish, to fish with legs, to fish with legs crawling on land and breathing air, to reptiles, to small mammals, to primates… to US!
It’s a wild journey of biological innovation and problem-solving in the name of survival!
And, guess what?!?
The story is all still in there!
It’s in our bodies…
The ancient biological systems and previous body plans are all there inside.
They have been modified and jury-rigged to fit our needs as our environments and needs changed over time.
So, we are basically fish who have figured out how to stand upright and dance on the land as if we were still floating in the sea!
AND… the main systems that support our voices – respiratory and digestive systems in particular – have evolved along the way too! How they evolved and how they fit into the puzzle of our current functioning related to voice, communication and singing is a beautiful and fascinating component of voicing.
Interestingly enough, it is our “FISH SYSTEM” that still has the greatest influence on our human voices today!
The journey from fish to singing primate is one that I will take you on in theory, in practice and in movement and re-organization… starting FISH FIRST!
Let’s dive in!
In this series we will:
- Understand how our body plan (four “legs” a spine and a head) makes a new kind of sense (interoceptive and intellectual) when we understand its fishy origins
- Look at how “good singing” has a LOT to do with our inner fish body with our human frame
- Experience movement awareness lessons designed to update our current evolutionary state by returning to and integrating the old fishy/reptile states within
